The TRUTH About AI Content (and Why You Should Care) - Episode 36

Here we are again, another week, another edition of Social Media Mastery.
I hope you’ve had a great past seven days and are ready to dive into a topic that’s shaping the entire digital world:

The Future of Content Creation: Can Humans Compete with AI?

Over the past few years, we’ve seen AI generated content evolve from something new and exciting, but ultimately pretty terrible, to where it is today: almost indistinguishable from human created work.

As the technology has rapidly developed (and continues to improve every day), I’m hearing more and more concern from creators, businesses, and personal brands who fear they might lose their place in the market because of AI driven content.

Today, I want to answer one simple question: should you be afraid of this, or is it just another passing trend?

Well, to start with - AI generated content is not a fad.
It’s here to stay and will become a permanent part of our world. The quicker you adapt, the more opportunities you’ll find.

Yes, I can see some platforms choosing to ban or restrict AI generated media, but given the convenience and scalability, most will likely embrace it.

So, the real question becomes:

What can you do to ensure you benefit from this takeover?

In short: evolve or become extinct.

The Yahoo Lesson

A powerful example of a company that failed to evolve is Yahoo.

In 1998, Yahoo was offered the chance to buy Google’s search technology for around $1 million. They declined, failing to see the potential in what was then a small startup.

Just a few years later, in 2002, they had another opportunity to purchase Google, this time for roughly $5 billion. Again, they passed.

By 2004, Yahoo had developed its own search engine, but by then it was too late. Google had already cemented itself as the leader in search, advertising, and innovation.

To put things into perspective:

  • In 2010, Google’s market value had surged past $190 billion, while Yahoo’s hovered around $20 billion.

  • By 2016, Yahoo’s core business was sold to Verizon for $4.8 billion.

  • And in 2025, Google’s parent company, Alphabet, is worth over $3.4 trillion.

The lesson? Those who adapt early dominate. Those who hesitate disappear.

In 2025, it’s not search engines leading the next revolution, it’s AI driven content and tools. The first movers in this space will capture the lion’s share of attention, customers, and growth.

Don’t resist change. Embrace it.

The Durant-Dort Carriage Company Lesson

Let’s go back even further.

In the early 1900s, the Durant-Dort Carriage Company was one of America’s largest manufacturers of horse-drawn carriages. They believed they had total control of the transportation market.

But by 1917, production had stopped. By 1924, the company was dissolved.

What happened?

A man named Henry Ford had a little idea he called “The Universal Car.”
As Ford began mass-producing affordable automobiles, Durant-Dort stuck with what they knew best, horse-drawn travel, instead of adapting to a world that was clearly changing.

Within just 24 years, a company that once dominated its industry was gone.

Don’t be Yahoo.
Don’t be Durant-Dort.

Be Google. Be Ford.

That doesn’t mean you have to build an AI company or start pumping out AI generated content today. But it does mean you need to pay attention, experiment, and learn.

Because the longer you wait, the higher the risk you’ll miss the opportunity that was right in front of you all along.
