Social Media Mastery - What should your business really post on Social Media? - Episode 10
Firstly, wow — 10 editions. That’s absolutely incredible!
I just want to start by saying a massive thank you for the support you’ve shown this newsletter. Whether you’ve read every episode since the start or this is your first one, it genuinely means a lot.
So, let’s jump straight into today’s topic, and it’s one that every business owner asks me at some point:
What Type of Content Should Your Company Be Posting?
When someone hears the words, “Your business needs to start posting on social media,” most people instantly picture TikTok dances, lip-sync trends, or awkward pointing at words on a screen. 😂
And while that kind of content can work for some people, I’m not suggesting you suddenly need to become a full-time entertainer.
What I’m really saying is: your business needs to start communicating with your audience, visually, consistently, and with purpose.
There are multiple types of content your brand can post to grow, connect, and convert, and the best brands usually use a mix of them.
Let’s break them down 👇
📌 Engagement Content
This is the kind of content that gets people talking.
Ask questions. Run polls. Create fun quizzes. Share “This or That?” stories. Your aim here isn’t to sell, it’s to spark a conversation.
Engagement content helps you build an actual community, not just a following. Every comment, reply, or DM strengthens the bond between you and your audience.
Remember: the algorithm loves engagement, and so does your audience.
📌 Value-Driven Content
This is my personal favourite type to create.
A strong hook, followed by genuine insight, whether it’s something you’ve learned, an experience you’ve had, or advice your followers can apply today.
This type of content builds trust. And trust takes time.
At first, it might not explode with likes or views, but over time, people will begin to look forward to your posts because they know they’ll always get value from them.
The audience you build this way is loyal, and far more likely to become clients, customers, or even ambassadors for your brand.
📌 Brand Awareness Content
This one’s essential, and it’s also my personal favourite to watch.
Let me see behind the curtain. Show me how your business works. Introduce your team. Talk about where you started, and what you’re trying to achieve.
In 2025, authenticity is currency.
People don’t just buy products anymore, they buy into people and stories. If you can show your personality, passion, and process, you’ll attract an audience that truly connects with you.
Think of it as humanising your brand.
📌 Social Proof
One of the most powerful (and underused) forms of content.
Let other people do the talking for you.
Share testimonials, reviews, or screenshots of positive feedback. Create short videos of clients explaining how you helped them.
It’s one thing for you to say you’re good at what you do, but it’s far more powerful when someone else says it for you.
Social proof builds credibility and gives new followers instant confidence in your brand.
📌 Entertaining Content
This one’s my bread and butter.
Memes, funny videos, relatable skits, anything that makes people smile or laugh. That’s how PintSizedHumour started, and it’s still one of the most effective ways to grow online.
We post entertaining content daily and use that audience to drive traffic toward our business services.
Meta ads are great — but if you can grow an engaged, entertained audience organically, you don’t need to rely on ads to reach people.
Entertainment breaks down barriers. It grabs attention. And in a world where attention is everything, that’s invaluable.
📌 Sales Content
Yes, this one still has its place — but only when used strategically.
Sales content works best for businesses that have something visually appealing or emotionally powerful to show off.
If you’re a real estate agent, show stunning homes.
If you’re a car dealership, post videos of people driving your cars.
If you’re a kitchen renovator, share jaw-dropping before-and-after transformations.
Show, don’t tell.
The key is to let your product speak for itself while the rest of your content (value, engagement, entertainment) builds the trust that gets people ready to buy.
So, What’s the Takeaway?
Honestly, it’s simple: just post content — and use a combination of all six types.
The businesses that grow the fastest are the ones that mix education, entertainment, authenticity, and engagement into their strategy.
A great example of this? The Sidemen.
For years, they’ve created entertaining content that people love watching.
They constantly post engaging content across their platforms.
They tell their personal stories through podcasts and vlogs, giving their fans a sense of connection.
And they weave sales into everything — from clothing to food to their own drink brand.
They’re a masterclass in multi-format content — and proof that variety, done consistently, is unstoppable.
Final Thoughts
The truth is, there’s no “perfect” content type.
What matters is finding your voice and staying consistent with it. Use your audience’s reactions as feedback, experiment with different formats, and don’t be afraid to evolve.
The biggest mistake businesses make is waiting until everything feels perfect before they start posting. But the reality? Perfection never comes — consistency does.
Learn from your mistakes. Double down on what works. And most importantly, keep showing up.
Because the more you post, the faster you’ll discover what truly makes your brand stand out.
